why are there more rude angry customers at the service desk than at a cash register?

Anyone ever had any personal retail experience working in places like this, any retail place that would include burger king, a clothing store, Wally world, etc..?? How do you deal with rude customers, mad customers, b!tchy ones, *******, at a service de

Answers:

Because at the register, they do not know that one item got scanned two times, making the price twice as much; they do not know that the gizmo they just bought is going to self destruct in five minutes; and they do not know that air mattresses are non-refundable. Ignorance is bliss, at that point.

Normally service desks are understaffed resulting in longer wait times
Plus the majority of customers at the service desk already have a complaint

Longer wait times make it possible for the person to get even more worked up about it.

Because the cashiers are just trained to check people out of the store. Every time a cashier has a problem customer they are told t0 refer them to the service desk.

Anyone who works a job like that has mad people skills. You gotta do the spiritual thing and forgive them for being so ignorant.. then you can smile and laugh and help them fix their messed up problem..

By the time the customer reaches the service desk, they have a complaint.
You deal with it using a simple rule - it is not directed at you - it is directed at the store/management/the product/anythinfg else.
You can deal with it by smiling at the person (very hard) and trying to help them get satisfaction.

Because the service desk is there for people to complain to. That is it's purpose.

Yes. Most of the people who go to the service counter are facing some kind of problem and of course, they come with a vengeance(for the corporation, but directed towards the poor, hapless staff).
