I want to be a game programmer and im about to graduate college. I know those jobs are extremely competitive. i want to find a job to start out at and work my way up.

Answers:

if you do not already hafe some games to show them that they will find of interest you are not likely to get a job

They don't hire if you don't have the software skills. And they mean professional software, in the $6,000 range, not the home stuff. That's why there are specialty colleges that train students for the field. You need a bachelors degree at the very least.

Video Game Designer Training, Education Requirements, Jobs & Salary

If you love gaming, and have a desire to learn the latest programming, art and media production skills, then video game designer is the career path for you. Depending on your interests and employment goals, the video game design job market offers a wealth of opportunities.

What education is needed to become a game designer?
Career Requirements. While some employers require a bachelor's degree in video game design or computer science, a high school diploma is the minimum requirement. You may need to have experience working in computer science, programming, or art.

no.. there is no gaming company

One way you can find out for yourself is go to game developer websites and see if they're hiring and see what the qualifications are. If you're qualified to apply for the open positions they're looking to fill apply for them. Finding someone here on Yahoo Answers that's in that field and getting an answer from them might be a longer distance to shoot at than searching as I suggested for yourself.

The link above might be a great place to look for and find developer websites to look for job listings to apply for. I don't know for sure how many games and developers are on the steam network but it might possibly be in the billions. You can find the developer sites by clicking on the games to go to the store page and the developers company name is listed in the release info on the right both at the top and several other places in the menu(s) on the right.

Here is another place to look. Ubisoft:

If you're a gamer, which I assume you are, you've had to of heard of steam and ubisoft.

no, they are all hard to get a job at
