lexus is250 2006 coolant keeps draining but engine temp is fine.?

about 4 months ago I noticed very little coolant in my engine, so i filled it. weeks later it drained from 7 inches full to about 1 inch. no difference in temperature, engine runs normal. A few days ago i filled it again, and checked it today, only a bit

There are only two possibilities. It is either leaking, which means you should smell it and see it, or the engine is consuming it with a very small leak in the intake or head gasket.

You must have a leak somewhere. They probably didn't even check very thoroughly. There's a test where you hook something up to your radiator and squeeze, that should show you where it's coming out. I don't know if you have to buy it, or the auto parts store will do it for you for free. But I would get it taken care of, you are at risk of overheating your engine, especially if it gets worse.

I'm with ksgentleman70 on this. You're losing fluid most likely from the recovery tank.

The way the recovery tank works is that when the engine heats up some coolant is expelled into the recovery tank. When the engine cools that excess fluid that blew out is sucked back in. That's how they work. They don't reflect how much coolant is in the radiator, they only show how much is in the recovery tank.

My neighbor has a 97 Lexus. He was definitely losing coolant. Being as cheap as he is he refused to take it into anyone. So when he asked for my help I looked at all the things he did to stop the leaking. He replaced the hoses (unusual for him), replaced the thermostat (seems he always thinks that's the problem, even when it isn't), and put a new radiator cap on the radiator. So when I had him run it for a while I noticed it was leaking from a second radiator cap, located up on the engine. Odd, I've never seen that before. So when opened I found that much of the seal had gone away. Told him to get a new cap for that location and it would likely solve his problem. It did.

Do you have a second radiator cap? If so, check that for leakage too. I think (guessing) it's for bleeding the air out of the system. In his case it was bleeding the coolant out. Obviously it's a different pressure rating, otherwise it could blow coolant when it gets hot but it's not connected to a recovery system. So if you have a second cap, consider getting a new cap for that engine mounted cap.

If you have to add coolant, the system has a leak that is not causing the engine to overheat yet. Replace the radiator cap (if there is one) and see if the issue goes away. If not, get the cooling system pressure bled and pressure tested.

You must be talking about the white, plastic reservoir tank beside the radiator. It is used as an overflow tank for the cooling system and can have varying amounts of coolant in it. Granted, it's suspicious to find it very low time and time again, but your vehicle has not run low/out of coolant.
