Were Christians the first to criminalize homosexuality?

Answers:

Christians don't make the laws of the nations they are in. Depending on the system, either the majority of the populace, or the ruler of that nation, deems what is lawful and what is a crime. Christian predominant nations generally have more Christian aligned governmental laws that reflect the society that is within their territory. Homosexuality was outlawed far before Christianity though in many different societies. Within my studies, Judaism was the first I've found to restrict it, but I've since found sources of Assyrian, Babylonian, Hittite, and others that had similar stances against some aspects of homosexuality. If you are interested in finding more, research the societies that supported homosexuality and often by looking at who their enemies were, you can potentially find people with different ideals.

No. There are other religions such as Islam which forbids homosexuality as well. In fact in some muslim countries the penalties for homosexuals who were caught is or was usually death by hanging. We haven't gone that far in the United States since our laws are not religious laws as in Islam. In muslim countries their religion IS the law, and Sharia Law is part of that. So it depends on the religion. Some are different than others.

It say's in the Bible that it is a perversion against God and his will.

No, thousands of years before Christ lived on earth, the Bible says at Leviticus 18:22 "“‘You must not lie down with a male in the same way that you lie down with a woman.a It is a detestable act." God has always forbid homosexuality. He made sex to be between a married man and woman.

Listen, @ -----> John Travolta, Christians are based on the word of God!

In fact, God also makes sex to use, "NOT" Abuse!

The fact is, that God knew well that men and women would have committed abominable things about sex, which is why he has established his laws since creation!

If you then, you are a fan of homosexuality, you will end up in hell!

From the Bible bible, Leviticus 18: 22. You will not have carnal relations with a man, as you have with a woman: it is abominable.

Is the syntax clear?

Regardless religions, it appears in recorded history that societies are more likely to ostracize homosexuality when facing a demography crisis like low life expectancy, high infant mortality, epidemics etc. (European Middle Age, Middle East Bronze Age...): No possible birth should be wasted, and homos are required to join in society fertility, even against their will.

On the other hand, flourishing societies tend to tolerate homosexuality (Ancient Greece and Rome, today Western democracies...).

Religions being the antiquity system of laws, they forbade homosexuality when necessary, and for good reasons.

Since Paleolithic people also faced some demography crisis at some points, we can safely speculate they also enacted some anti gay rules in their shamanic/animist like religions thousands of years before monotheistic religions.

Since Christianity laws (Israelite in fact) arose during one of those crisis and have never been updated since then, they still include anti gay rules.

No. But people like that make it easy to think that.

Nope. Plato argued for the criminalization of homosexual acts in his writings along with Socrates.

It should also be noted that there are instances where Christian leaders have lead the charge to decriminalize homosexuality. Michael Ramsey, former Archbishop of Canterbury of the Anglican Church(my Church) in the 60s lead the charge in England years before the gay rights movement even started to have homosexuality decriminalized. And he was joined surprisingly by the Catholic Church in England as well as the Methodist Churches.

i bet pagans got around to it first

you mean the Jews right?
