I think they should be. If someone wants to own a gun....fine, but PLEASE art banning assult riffles. We have no need of them unless we at war.....what do u say?

Answers:

Let's keep a few things in mind that will probably upset both extremes. First, the US Supreme Court upheld rules prohibiting automatic weapons over 80 years ago so such legal prohibitions do NOT VIOLATE THE SECOND AMENDMENT, contrary to some people's wishes. Secondly, the term "assault weapons" needs to be defined more carefully. Personally I believe semi-automatic and automatic weapons and accessories to weapons to make them perform like a semi-automatic or automatic weapon belongs in the "assault weapon" classification - my definition of an "assault weapon" is one that can fire at a rate of more than 1 round in 3 seconds (20 rounds / minute) but this is open to negotiation. Keep in mind that semi-automatics can easily fire at a rate of more than 60 rounds / min and automatics can fire in excess of 600 rounds / minute - and the general public does not need such speed for sports, hobby, or personal protection. On the other side, there is no reason to ban legitimate sport and hobby use of proper weapons - no one needs semi-automatic or automatic weapons for legitimate sport or hobby. Some sort of screening for ownership, to prevent people who are not capable of handling weapons, is needed as well. This will not stop all but it will help somewhat. Finally and in my view, regrettably, this will not work all the time so better school security will be needed and this will unfortunately turn schools more into prison like structures that will keep undesirables out whereas prison keeps undesirables in - and they need be monitored and access limited which is going to be a MAJOR task.

I'm not opposed to gun control. But let's understand that the AR-15 is NOT a military rifle. It's made to look like a military rifle. You could do the same amount of damage with a semi automatic handgun in a confined space like a school. Where the rifle applies is long range, like what happened in Las Vegas.

All guns should be significantly harder to acquire than they are.

First off, your grammar makes this question extremely hard to understand, but seriously they shouldn't ban them simply because that wouldn't do anything because the criminals will get guns regardless of the laws if they want one. Just look at underage kids drinking alcohol, sure there are laws but if they want it they will go around the law to get it

IIE mean NO at japan.

Why don't we start by banning drugs and see how that works first......right? Our culture is such criminals will still get what they want, just like they can still get illegal drugs. The only ones that bans would affect are lawful citizens. It would even cause many lawful citizens to turn into criminals. Learn from history, remember prohibition.

Fine. Define assault rifle. Because the AR-15 platform fires the exact same bullets at the same exact velocity and range as a Ruger Ranch Rifle which is used by farmers and ranchers everywhere. AR does not mean assault rifle, by the way.

Im a gun guy and i still believe the majority of firearms should be banned
