I’m 26 and have been getting horrible headaches and dizziness. Had a ct scan done now they wanna do an MRA of my brain. I’m beyond nervous.... today my doctors apt my BP was 139/89 I’m also scared I have high BP now too cause of my headaches & pain. I

Answers:

Do you mean an MRI?

Just relax about the MRI... it's noisy in there (a loud humming) but close your eyes and think of things you like or like doing. That's what i did. The technician will ask you how you're doing while you're in there, by the way. It's not painful just a bit closed up. But it's not the end of the world, and if you may have a medical issue it's better to find out what it is and get treated instead of struggling with it forever. Think about it.

Your blood pressure is kind of high, but this could easily be because of headache pain and anxiety. The MRA it's self can induce anxiety as your head will be put in what can be described as a cage to keep it still. When I had mine they placed a thin washcloth over my eyes so I couldn't see the cage and reduced my anxiety. Since I am very claustrophobic, they also gave me Ativan, which helped immensely, so don't be afraid to ask for this. Just remember, it is best to find out what is going on, even if something serious, so it can be treated before it gets worse.

MRIs damage NOTHING, AND COULD SAVE YOULIFE.

STOP BEING A CARDY CAT, AND GET THE TEST DONE

It's nothing. Your head is the only thing that goes in, the rest of you stays out.
Ask for an OPEN MRI...very important.
I will bet you anything your High BP comes from anxiety.

Try to relax. If it was real serious they wouldn't make you wait a week.
I had an MRA years ago. If you move it takes longer. So, do your best to stay perfectly still.
A few times I'd get an itch on my face and I thought about astronauts who can't touch their face when they're in a space suit.
It's a little weird but the itch does go away.
The machine makes weird sounds. I just kept my eyes closed and imagined I was at some weird arty abstract concert. It was almost fun.

Just think, it's very possible that later next week, after the scan, you'll have some blood pressure medication and change your diet and that'll be it.
Go watch a movie or something to take your mind off your worries.

Blood pressure is not high considering you are in pain.. Pain causes temporary higher b.p. I wouldn't worry too much, they are just being safe rather than sorry.. Good luck!

An MRA is nothing to be concerned about,
and your blood pressure happens to be at a very acceptable level.

Mine just jumped to 500/90 just reading your story.

All your Doctor will be doing is taking a look at the more refined structures of your brain (blood vessels, etc.)
with the aid of the most current technology, rather than the general and overall view that an MRI provides.

The best thing you can do is relax, most of the time when something goes wrong it was because someone panicked
