Update: To a level sufficient to prevent the taxpayer having to top up people's wages, hence subsidising businesses' wage bill?

Answers:

Australia Pays $18 and Hour which is a Liveable wage the USA can afford $25.00 which would mean No Jobs for Illegals and they also pay taxes

Good question with Min. wage is U.S. $4.65 a day for 12 hours work. But few get a full day in. It may be time to raise it to 40 cents U.S. a hour. For all. The Piso has been going down & inflation.

Yes.

no it is pointless since 1 we can't afford it 2 there is huge credit card debt running the economy as it is we have a large National debt of 2 trillion pound inflation is murdering us right now and the bank rate is in prison loosing it out will bring humpty off the wall and all the kings horses and all the kings men will not be able to put it together again they will run away we cannot afford to run Britain properly again its good if you are rich but the rest are doomed it is 2008 on a greater scale 7 years Carney has promised a rate rise for this for that for the other all have come and gone please object if I am lying 7 years just one quarter per cent inflation is still wondering around free finance was stupid in 2008 it is again they are fu**ed we are falling apart every day someone is crying oh the NHS the Police the Prisons the Teachers the schools the Universities the student debt the councils the roads and minimum wage would need to be doubled to just break even as a human requires to live a civilised life in the 5th richest country on earth

The minimum wage should be a fixed living wage which would shift in line with inflation

It should go up in line with inflation otherwise it just becomes meaningless. We need an economy where anyone who works full time can afford to live without needing top up benefits

Putting up the minimum wage isn't free - simple economics would tell you the money needs to come from somewhere. Even Diane Abbott knows that. (Just kidding - we all know Labour know zilch about economics)

Yes. It'll mean employers laying people off to pay for it, but you can't make an omelette without breaking eggs.

The minimum wage is a magnet for immigrants, of which there are far too many. I would like the minimum wage to be applicable in public service only.

Yes, it is ridiculous that we spend so much on top up benefits. They should also stop the scam of only doing a few hours to keep claiming max benefits.
Tired of paying for part time workers 'essential' to Londoners. If they want to fund them, they should.
