Answers:

Our teachers are not any better armed than yours.
It might help if some of them were armed, though. Obviously you can't depend on government entities like the police.

No. It's a stupid idea, especially since nobody is willing to fund the training necessary to properly operate a firearm! A better solution would be to raise the legal age for buying an assault weapon and the ammunition for them. Require mandatory training and issue a special license to own one. Ban all sales of assault weapons on the Internet and at gun shows. And make them available only from licensed, designated gun shops. Also extend the waiting period in the application process.

That is not a requirement, that would be a local decision by unions and school districts in the U.S. And only teachers who are qualified to shoot would want to be armed. Otherwise, the alternative is an armed guard and metal detectors and keeping the doors locked.

Teachers have the potential to respond much faster to gun attacks than police can.

I asked a question relating to this yesterday (see link in comments).

You obviously didnt hear what the President said...
He said there are a significant number of school teachers who have a Veterans background and training from all branches of the military.
It is these men and women he is asking to step forward and update their training to include protective detail over students and faculty and to apply for a concealed carry permit.
This obviously excludes gullible, leftist, dope-smoking, tenured personnel who would wet their pants at a car back-firing.

Police have been armed in the USA for years. They haven't managed to stop mass shooting so why they think arming teachers will do is beyond me

You have hit the nail on the head there. To require teachers to be proficient with handguns is madness. Allowing a competent gunner who happens to be a teacher to have a concealed piece is a different matter, I would say.
