ma’akua gulch in landscape, mis. plants, people, trees & leaves

ma'akua gulch

The hubby and I hiked Ma’akua Gulch last Saturday. It’s a very rough trail because you’re hiking on a rocky stream bed.

This hike is closed and I do not recommend anyone attempt to hike this gulch. It was/is very dangerous. There are rocks literally falling all around you through the later half of the hike. Hubby and I did not stick around very long because of the unsafe conditions.

I often find dark lush woulds hard to capture or rather hard to convey what it is that I am seeing because there is often so much detail. I’m hoping learning more about aperture and remembering to bring my tripod will help.

How fare in did you take this pic? I hiked the gulch the other day,and I when about an hour and a half in and I did not see what was in the pics you have. Right now there is no waterfall. But it was a nice hike.

@rachel: We hiked all the way to the end. Are you sure you were on the right hike? Because this hike took almost 8 hours and was on the closed and dangerous list.

I think so I went up the the road that takes you to the Hauula Loop Trail I when to the end of the black top and down in to the gulch. I stopped after a couple of hours when the trail got to thick, there where a lot of trees down over the gulch. I will not be finishing the trail any time soon. On my way back I fell off a 20 ft. waterfall ( with no water :( ) I should not be doing things like
that by myself but my hubby is not in to thing like that. What I have learned? That if they say it is dangerous it is. LOL.

You didn’t go far enough. You have to continue through the tangled trees and after that you still have another two hours to reach the end. And it gets more dangerous and more narrow. There were things falling all around Joe and I.

If you live here and you’re that daring, you should hit me up and we should go hiking together.

    (edit)

I’ve been looking for someone brave enough to hike Sacred Falls this summer. :)

Hey what kind of gear would I need for sacred falls? I was going to go sky diving for my birth day but my sweety can not handle me jumping out of a plane at 10,000 ft. So he is getting climbing gear in stead.
